08/ 29/ 05 Ioan Nemtoi introduces Glass Cow

Ioan Nemtoi is one of the most creative European artists, well known for his ingenious glass works, either decorative or monumental. His name is linked to shaping monumental glass works, and combining live colors with opaque glass surfaces.

“Without having too many details about the previous successes of this event, I accepted to participate to CowParade Bucharest 2005 driven by a very simple motivation: the physical proximity to regular citizens that this new form of street art implies. And this is what I want my art to inspire to people – communion. The event’s organizers have borrowed a modern art motto and successfully used it – art comes to the street. A brilliant idea for this grey-colored Bucharest.” – declared the artist.

For CowParade Bucharest 2005, Ioan Nemtoi decorated a spectacular cow. Glass Cow has been displayed in the Rotonda at Plaza Romania on Wednesday, 24 August, by the artist himself.

“I assumed the noble purpose of this event, charity, without ignoring its essence. Observing the city streets, agglomerated by powerful vehicles and sky scrapers, now invaded by cows, I had a dream-like vision, a shock, but, at the same time, a challenging starting point: what does the ordinary cow look like in the witching hour of the technological and urban era, is she suffering of provincial syndrome or does she adapt, is she or is she not stroke by the oddity around her? These questions arise beyond the shallow game, leading to the crazy cow – as my son calls it, a surreal cow of the city, an artifice that stands against the artificial in our lives. Instead of a Daisy grazing its share of flowers, I imagined a half dysfunctional cow, a little bit uncertain of its statute, a freak of nature. For existing, art only needs a pretext, and if my initiative can help the Special Olympics Romania athletes, I can only enjoy creating it”, said Ioan Nemtoi.

Glass Cow is undoubtedly a work of art that won’t leave anybody indifferent. It is the starting point for comments and discussions, and it raises many questions. In this context, we invite you to talk about this unique work of art with its creator, Ioan Nemtoi, during a press conference on Wednesday, 31 August, in the Rotonda at Plaza Romania. During this event, you will also witness the finalization of the last CowParade grazers painted in a live workshop at Plaza Romania.

Glass Cow and the other cows displayed at Plaza Romania are insured by Allianz Tiriac General.
