09/ 14/ 05 Over 40,000 euro raised at the CowParade Bucharest 2005 Charity Auction
The CowParade Bucharest 2005 Charity Auction was organized to raise money for charity. 18 cows were auctioned with proceeds going to Special Olympics Romania, the eventâs official charity, and two of the cows were sold to raise money for the flood victims. The Liviu Rebreanu Hall at the National Theatre hosted representatives of authorities, VIPs, artists, partners, Special Olympics supporters and CowParade fans. Among them were Nadia Comaneci, Mioara Mantale, Serban Bucur, Ioan Nemtoi, Cristi Puiu, Mihai Stanescu, Razvan Ciobanu, Larisa Claru, Andreea Esca and Alexandre Eram, Cristina Teodorescu.
Michele Lagueux, the Director of CowParade Bucharest 2005, welcomed the guests and thanked everybody for the support they have shown throughout the project.
Mrs. Mioara Mantale underlined the importance of Bucharest hosting this public art exhibition, and expressed her regret for having to say goodbye to the cows, after they filled the city with color.
On behalf of the EC Delegation, Mrs. Doina Serban read a message from Ambassador Jonathan Scheele.
Nadia Comaneci, the Honorary President of Special Olympics Romania, thanked all those who supported the CowParade Bucharest 2005 generous initiative.
Mihaela Radulescu and Alexandru Ghildus proved very dynamic and full of energy, helping the audience overcome the late hour and encouraging them to bid. Well prepared but also very creative, the two hosts presented each cowâs characteristics, underlining the aesthetical aspects, as well as the artistsâ creativity.
44.450 euro were raised for Special Olympics Romania and 4.100 euro were raised for floods victims. The auctionâs record was Perfect Ten, the cow signed by Nadia Comaneci, and painted by Andrei Farcasanu. The happy new owner of this cow is Mr. David Howe, who bid 6000 euro for the cow.
The funds raised for Special Olympics Romania will be used to organize the 2005 Special Olympics Friendship Games, hosting athletes from 11 countries. The Games will take place in Constanta between 24-29 September.
